Intermediate Hydrogeologist

Description:

As an Intermediate Hydrogeologist, you will support projects that span multiple disciplines within our organization in order to deliver high quality and sustainable solutions to our clients. You will have the opportunity to expand your career by working on exciting and high-profile water, waste, and energy projects.

Your experience in the industry and/or consulting, as well as your project and people skills will enable you to make a difference in our industry and inspire new and better ways to implement engineering and water management solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the planning, management, and reporting of hydrogeological field investigations including drilling, logging, sampling, installation of source/monitoring wells and vibrating wire piezometers, surface water and groundwater studies, groundwater seepage analysis, aquifer testing programs, and hydrochemical evaluations.
  • Manage soil, groundwater, and surface water quality data.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate geological, hydrogeological, geochemical, and geophysical data, including well logs, well tests, DSTs, pressure head data, monitoring data, surface water data, to develop conceptual hydrogeological models.
  • Support business development and proposal writing. Establishing labor-hours, cost, and schedule estimates for project deliverables.
  • Support the ongoing management and development of our environmental database to generate and interpret tables, graphics, and statistical analysis.
  • Infrastructure assessment and planning skills including strategic business impact, risk, and socio-economic impact considerations an asset.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited curriculum in Geological, Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 5+ years of applicable experience or consulting experience conducting hydrogeological investigations of various sites.
  • Must be fluent in English and legally able to work in Canada.
  • Valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to and work in remote project sites.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Geologist (P.Geo) in Alberta.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the mining industry is an asset.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage change and work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English including your experience in authoring technical reports and proposals and making presentations to clients and Review Boards.
  • Proficiency in GeoScout or Accumap.
  • Experience in well test interpretation.
  • Familiarity with hydrogeological technical software programs that may include AQTESOLV, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, EQuIS, PHREEQC, GoldSim and/or AquaChem. Experience with Saphir and CMG STARS is an asset.
  • A background knowledge in geochemistry, water treatment, and/or groundwater flow modelling is an asset.
  • Infrastructure assessment and planning skills including strategic business impact, risk, and socio-economic impact considerations an asset.
  • Knowledge of isotopes and/or inorganic/organic geochemistry would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the regional hydrogeology, hydrostratigraphy, and hydrogeochemistry of the oil sands regions would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Directives, Water Act, regulations, policies, and guidance as they pertain to the permitting and regulation of groundwater.
