SAGD Wastewater Injection Geochemical Assessment

Have Questions? Let's Discuss SAGD Wastewater Injection Geochemical Assessment

Monitoring and Geochemical Assessment for an Operating SAGD Facility's Disposal Well

The Challenge

Water disposal is essential for any thermal in-situ project. As such, understanding geochemical interactions that take place between the disposal water and the target formation is vital to ensure successful and long-term disposal operations. Integrated Sustainability was retained by the client to conduct a monitoring and geochemical assessment for an operating SAGD facility to determine if their water disposal methods were leading to any physical or chemical reactions that may inhibit the receiving formation’s ability to retain fluids.

The Result

Integrated Sustainability undertook laboratory based experiments and computer simulations of the geochemical interactions between disposal waters and formation minerals. In conjunction with this the team was successful in aiding with the evaluation of well injection operational constraints. These results were then used to create a hydrogeological model.
