Sustainable Infrastructure for Indigenous Communities

The Right-Fit For Your Community

In the past, vested interests within infrastructure development have been known to push for a preferred technical solution instead of seeking to balance technical specifications with the local environment and community needs.

Integrated Sustainability has no vested interests in any specific technology or equipment, freeing our solution to focus on the community’s needs. We work directly with you to find the best technology and infrastructure solutions for your community.

The goal is to plan for both immediate and long-term needs using sustainable solutions that can be supported and maintained by skills available within, or rapidly accessible to, the community.

Access to Capital & De-risking Development

Small communities face many challenges accessing financing for special projects and we work closely with you to explore public/private partnership options to alleviate this burden.

By positioning the relevant regulatory, procurement and construction procedures in place, we will work with your community to implement projects with zero changes. This improves both Federal and provincial grant applications and access to capital.

Through working on permitting and eligibility criteria together, our guidance will help develop a design and construction plan well optimized to maximize funding and ongoing operational efficiency.

Integrated Sustainability’s project delivery system customizes construction management to the risk and scale of each project. This risk-based approach ensures you of accountability and helps achieve cost certainty in project delivery.

We offer Design-Build, and EPCM and standard cost-reimbursable deliver models. Contact us to find out how our approach can help you realize the financial incentives spurring the energy transition today.

Working With Shared Purpose

Integrated Sustainability are passionate supporters of Indigenous lead community development. We actively participate in projects to secure safe water, promote public health, and encourage environmental protection, for over 50 Indigenous communities across Canada. With a strong and reliable reputation, we aim to work together as long-term partners to honor water’s sacredness within our shared roles as stewards of the land.

Every community is different, which is why we like to begin with knowledge sharing with your Chief, council, and operations staff. Once strong working relationships are established, we seek to engage communities with listening sessions to create a dialogue and come to an agreement within the wider community. We would like to become a trusted advisors and understand the importance of working within the community to reach this goal.

Understanding the communities’ wishes and concerns is of utmost importance to us. Not only because it enables a smoother process, but also because this allows for a solution that serves your unique needs and considers your unique environmental conditions.

Our purpose and perspective drive our organization. We are a tight-knit community of individuals who believe in empowering lives, building resiliency, and protecting our most precious resources. The majority of our staff have an environmental science background and care deeply about the future welfare of our planet.

Adaptation and mitigation to climate change is considered in all our designs. We appreciate that there is much we don’t know about the intricacies of the biosphere, and we respect the proprietary rights indigenous communities exercise with regard to medicines and native plant knowledge.

In our experience to date, we have found that distrust in water systems has been caused by long-term issues such as chronic underfunding, inadequate distribution systems, and seasonal disruption. We work directly with communities to show how effective collaboration, planning, and ongoing technical/operational support can overcome these hurdles and build sustainable community ownership.

We acknowledge that our Vancouver Office is located on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

We also acknowledge that our Calgary Office is located in the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
